Napa

Cathryn tasting at William Hill, our first stop of the day.

Grigch was our second winery. Above: me at Grigch. Below: Ian, Greg, Cathryn and Masha tasting. Where's Tin?

Mondavi was our 3rd winery and we took a tour followed by a tasting. Mondavi uses large wooden tanks vs. metal tanks which seem to be the norm today.

On our way back to SF we stopped for dinner and aa sunset walk along the pier in Sausalito.

Ocean Beach & SF

After visiting Golden Gate Park we walked to Ocean Beach. Tin, Catherine, Masha and I strolled along the beach to the Cliff House for lunch.

When our bellies were full of clams we headed for the vista from Twin Peaks. The wind was howling and the air was crisp.

Above, self-portrait. Below, Catherine and Tin at our manditory coffee stop before driving N on the 101 to Napa.

Volvo Adventures: San Francisco to Telluride

After just 2 weeks in San Francisco I found a job driving a Volvo XC90 plus one passenger, Senna the black lab, to Telluride.

I picked up the car and Senna in Marin County just north of San Francisco on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. From there the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge delivered me to the east bay and sent me on my journey east.

I spent the night in SLC at a friends house and arrived in Telluride the following afternoon where I stayed for 3 days and then flew out of the Telluride Airport for the first time ever beginning my journey back to San Francisco.

Avg. Speed: 73mph
Total Distance: 1177miles
Max. Speed: 119mph (rev. limiter)

Mountainfilm In Telluride

Every Memorial Day weekend the tribe gathers in Telluride for Mountainfilm, which is a celebration of mountain adventure, spirit, culture and life. This year's Moving Mountain Symposium was Mongolia. Molly, the camel, was present throughout the weekend and a Mongolian yurt was setup near Lift 8. I saw many excellent films this year; you can find more information on the festival by visiting www.mountainfilm.org

Telluride is one of the few places I've been in the world that has a unicycle fetish. Almost every day in summer one can see unicyclists rolling here and there. During the Ice Cream Social the rippers set up a course to show off their stuff.

I spent most of the festival weekend in the Palm booth. Because there were only a couple films and most of the program was Beta SP I found my self primarily sitting in front of the sound board and Beta deck.

The last time I was able to mingle around in Telluride was during the Ice Cream Social on main street Sunday afternoon. Telluride is like summer camp during the warm months, and I definately have a love-hate relationship with it. I'm excited to be in San Francisco for the summer but also dearly miss Telluride and my friends there.

10 minutes before leaving Telluride for California via southern Oregon and the Rat Race Paragliding Competition I ran into my friend Teresa just as the spring sky was just beginning to unleash a fury of rain, grouple and snow. I had yet to find a home for my town cruiser but I wasn't worried becuase I always had this feeling that it would find a great new home. Teresa had a huge smile on her face as she rode off on her new bicycle.
