Monarca 2011 from Fly Soboba
Monarca 2011 just ended; we flew every day and scored 5/6 tasks. Conditions were tricky on numerous days, not typical Valle conditions, with fronts passing through and snow in northern Mexico, but as usual the flying was super fun. I borrowed an IcePeak 3 a couple days before the comp (thank you Rob @ Eagle Paragliding!!!), and understand why this was such a popular glider: super fun to fly and great handling, with heavy brake pressure that will definitely build your ‘guns’. I was stoked to be in the top 10 along with Pine, flying the only 3-liners to appear there.

One cannot fully recount the modern history of Hawai’i without sharing the story of Hōkūle’a, a voyaging canoe that made the historic 1976 journey from Hawai’i to Tahiti eschewing contemporary navigational aids, using only traditional wayfinding. And one cannot recount the story of Hōkūle’a without the story of compassion and redemption that characterizes the life of master navigator Pius Mau Piailug. Willing to bestow sacred, ancient knowledge, Mau revived an art lost in Hawai’i for 600 years. Sail through time and share Mau’s story, as the master navigator and teacher awaits the arrival of his Hawaiian apprentices and their ultimate gift–a sailing canoe. Papa Mau: The Wayfinder
I’m back in Hawai’i for the Hawai’i IFF 2010. I’m in charge of video inspection this year, in addition to being one of the video projectionists. I’ve compiled a list of films/shorts that I either watched and loved, or drew me in upon a quick inspection. Keep an eye out for these films at a theater near you, and let me know your favorites!

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

“The Red Helmet”. We played this at Mountainfilm In Telluride and I was psyched to see it again… (and love the soundtrack)!

The Pre-PWC Ukranian Open is the last comp on our European tour. Kruševo is a sweet town in the mountains, and the flying here is awesome! We’ve had 4 tasks in 4 days, and tomorrow is the final day. Day one had only 3 pilots in goal, day 2 also only a few into goal, and Yassen is winning. Yesterday was a super fast day, and i was 6th into goal! Today was a fun 58km FAI triangle, and I also made goal in the top 10.
